What Is Primary Hypertension?
Primary hypertension is also referred to as essential hypertension. According to studies, nine out of ten persons may have this condition. In primary hypertension, the exact cause of elevated blood pressure is not identified. No medical condition or sickness can be accounted for it.
Primary hypertension has been dubbed as the silent killer because it usually does not present any symptom. Furthermore, as primary hypertension is not associated with any sickness, it is often left undiscovered.
Some factors are known to contribute to the occurrence of this condition. Among these are habits that are abusive to your health, such as smoking and excessive drinking of alcohol. People who often tend to drink as a response to some emotional needs unwittingly put themselves at risk for primary hypertension.
Other factors that can cause you to develop primary hypertension are being overweight and being obese. Not exercising regularly or lacking physical activity can also lead to the condition. The food you eat, especially if you eat foods that are rich in fat and salt, may cause primary hypertension.
Genetics may also play a role in the development of this condition. According to studies, both genetics and environmental factors have an equal role in putting someone at risk for primary hypertension.
Some persons may carry the genes that make them disposed to primary hypertension. Families often share certain habits and lifestyles, particularly in food and physical activities. Thus, persons coming from active families who practice healthy eating habits are less likely to have primary hypertension than families who are more into the sedentary lifestyle.
You can reduce the risk of primary hypertension by eating healthy foods that are low in fat and salt and eating a lot of fruits and vegetables. If you do not yet have a regular exercise program, you can start now so you can give your body a good cardio workout. You can also adapt some changes to make your lifestyle as less sedentary as possible.
